First let me say, if there are spelling/grammar errors in this post please disregard them, I’ve been working on this site for roughly 18 hours straight, and am on my 6th Mt Dew Amp Energy drink and am about to pass out on my keyboard. There will be no fancy effects on this page, just me describing the current status of this website.
The traffic took out the first server, so now we’re on the second
This website was hosted on a VPS server. VPS stands for virtual private server. It is a step between the typical shared hosting you’d see at Godaddy, Host Gator, and Blue host, but is not a standalone dedicated server that you’d see larger companies using, it’s somewhere in the middle.
At around 9:30AM the site got over 1000 people on it at the same time, and immediately crashed. It’s not a DDOS attack or anything malicious, it was just too many people on.
I have transferred the website to a dedicated 8 core server with 16GB of Ram. This is the server that I run my small WordPress Hosting company with. At the rate it’s gaining momentum at, I’m going to start getting a lot of complaints from angry customers because everyone’s site is going to start running slow that’s on this server, this is fine with me, Vets risk their lives for this country so I don’t mind risking my business for them.
