In America we now live in a society where you can sue the police when you fail at parenting. This is exactly what Brian and Becky Guilford are attempting to do after they filed a civil case against Officer Frost of the Eaton County Sheriff’s office in Michigan.
To sum it up, their son Deven Guilford was pulled over for flashing his high beams at an officer. The officer asks several times for Deven’s identity. Deven refuses while acting like a jerk. Deven points out several times that he’s recording the police officer, undoubtedly hoping to be the next internet sensation for standing up to those bad evil cops.
Eventually after approximately 5 minutes the officer had his fill and proceeds to pull Deven out of the car. Deven resists arrest and refuses to put his hands behind his back. The officer uses his taser but apparently it doesn’t completely hit Deven and isn’t effective. Deven jumps on top of the officer and assaults him. Photos taken after the incident show clear injuries to the Officers face. The Officer acts in self defense and shoots Deven, and now the parents are trying to sue the police rather than own up to the fact that they failed at parenting.
So after looking at the pictures below of Officer Frosts injuries taken imediately after the incident, how can you honestly make the case that Frost didn’t have the right to defend himself? He tried using reason, he tried using a taser, when nothing else worked the only option he had was Lethal force. That is what ensures him that he will be going home to his family.
If I ever get killed by a police officer for assaulting him over a traffic stop, I request that you only write one word on my Tombstone, “Stupid”. How can you honestly make the case after watching the video that the officer did not have the right to defend himself? By their own words, Becky and Brian Guilford said “Their son wasn’t a fighter, he had never gotten into a fight”. That would imply, unless of if they’re lying, that the Officer allowed Devon to land several blows before finally retorting to the last option he had, lethal force.
While browsing through various sites covering this story I couldn’t help but notice the top comment on the site Dailymail.co.uk:
Surely a taser and hand cuffs would be enough to restrain someone as opposed to 7 bullets to the chest… Police are just way too eager to shoot people.
I don’t know why but I took one look at the cop and thought he’d had done that to himself!
And here I thought that the differences between US and UK English were minor, boy was I wrong. The comments and amount of likes the comments received displays a clear inability to comprehend plain English. Though the article clearly mentions the officer attempted to use a Taser readers still accuse cops of being too Gun Ho because they don’t use their Taser? And they get thousands of likes. Perhaps the dailymail should require their readers pass a simple IQ test before allowing them to comment on articles..
Do you disagree with the Officer’s reactions? Good, then why don’t you put the bag of Doritos down, get off your lazy ass, put the badge on and go do a better job yourself? Oh you can’t? It’d interfere with Tuesday Yoga and Wednesday Hug a tree marathon? Oh I’m real sorry about that.
No civilian / non cop including myself will ever understand what its like to put a badge on and risk your life every day to earn a living. Not only do you have to deal with criminals daily that could kill you, but you also have to deal with Whiny 17 year old internet attorneys that are complete a**holes when you pull them over. As the days get older less people respect you due to shoddy journalism, but you still put that badge on every day and go to work because that’s how you feed your family. Liberals and entitled millennials might not respect you, but everyone that works for this website does.
