HAUGHTON, Louisiana — Jessica Byrnes-Laird has at least ten broken teeth and several stitches after being attacked by a group of African American teens.
It was supposed to be a routine trip to the A & Y Quick Stop. Jessica’s boyfriend went in the store while stayed outside. This is when Jessica claims that she was sexually harassed by a group of Black Teens. When her boyfriend came out after buying a pack of cigarettes, a fight broke out after he heard the comments. When the couple attempted to flee, one of the Black Teens threw a brass pipe through the open car window and smashed Jessica in the face.
Any time that you have one race viciously attacking another race like this, race should always be considered a factor in the crime. Was race what caused the lack of respect for the woman? Was race what caused the fight to break out? Was it race that made the black teen decide to throw a metal pipe at the car rather than just letting them drive away?
Jessica has received a great outpouring of support. Her Gofundme campaign to help her pay for the dental and reconstructive work has raised over $5400 in 3 days. If there is one good thing that comes from this story, it’s that several people came together to donate money to a person they didn’t know to help them during their time of need.
We all know if the roles were reversed this would of been on national news. As often is the case, it is ignored when the victim is white. This sends two different singles to races in this country. Whether by intention or not, this increases the racial divide. The media has a lot of African Americans convinced the police are out to kill them while the same media, by their lack of reporting, have a lot of Whites convinced African American’s aren’t prosecuted enough by police.
